Desiree Younge

Founder, Désirée Younge who possesses over 15 years of experience in the philanthropy, for-profit and nonprofit sectors, leads the expanding team of Cotton Tree Philanthropy Advisors (CTPA).

Ms. Younge’s educational training and professional experience encompasses poverty, economic development, education, youth, orphans, immigrants, refugees, HIV/AIDS, malaria, maternal health, food security, non-timber forestry agriculture, supply and product chain analysis, children’s rights, women’s empowerment and gender mainstreaming, post-conflict and emergency relief, social entrepreneurship, small and medium size enterprises, cause-related marketing, and microfinance.

Prior to launching CTPA, Ms. Younge worked at Synergos Institute where she supported leading international philanthropists whose interests and social investments targeted poverty alleviation, social justice and inequality in Africa. She also facilitated key strategic partnerships and collaborative efforts between Synergos and other philanthropic entities such as Women Moving Millions, and planned educational workshops, forums, and learning journeys to expose philanthropists to regional experts, practitioners and innovative models.

Ms. Younge was a Senior Program Officer at the Robin Hood Foundation, where she was responsible for $8 million in annual investments to nonprofit organizations with budgets ranging from $250K to $40M. Her role included providing technical assistance to over 80 grantees and managing capacity-building grants and pro bono services, totaling $1M.

Ms. Younge holds a BA in Business Administration from the College of Notre Dame in Maryland, and a MA in International Affairs, with a concentration in Socioeconomic Development from the New School University. She serves on the Board of Directors of Refuge Point, Health HIV, and Shine on Sierra Leone.

Ms. Younge is originally from Sierra Leone and has built a wealth of connections in West, East and Southern Africa, which she brings to CTPA’s clients who are established and new to the region.
